Scarred Perfection’ The Inaugural US Exhibition By Mimi Plange

Mimi Plange will be showcasing her first US exhibition entitled “Scarred Perfection” at the acclaimed Savannah college of Art and Design in Atlanta from April 16 to June 1, 2012. Scarred Perfection will feature the work of Mimi Plange, a Ghanaian born, California raised, New York based Fashion Designer who uses trapunto embroidery to showcase her inspiration of traditional African Scarification and Historical Victorian fashion.
Scarred Perfection will be presented in conjunction with SCAD Style, an engaging series of lectures, exhibitions and film screenings from renowned artists, designers and industry professionals. The exhibition will take place from April 16-20, 2012 at the Savannah College of Art and Design’s Atlanta, Hong Kong and Savannah locations.”This is my first exhibition, and I am honored to be able to present my fashions to SCAD University and the people of Atlanta. I have long been interested in the fashion of pre colonial Africa. Body modification is fashion. It is an exploration of self and expression. I wanted to fuse that particular idea of repetition and individuality into a Victorian aesthetic and push it forward ” said Mimi PlangeThe opening reception will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 6-7pm at the Savannah college of Art and Design in Atlanta followed by a lecture delivered by Mimi Plange herself.
