Shadders Interview African Fashion Blogger Assa Cisse Of www.Ciaafrique.com

Shadders had a chat with the lovely African Fashion blogger Assa Cisse of www.Ciaafrique.com. If you have been following Shadders you will know that I previously interviewed Gillean Opoku of Afroklectic blog and Terence Sambo of  OneNigerianBoy, as bloggers are the least people credited we decided to shine some light on some of our Favourite African fashion bloggers as they share their blogging journey with us, Enjoy!

Tell us a little about your cultural background?

I  am from Mali, an African country located in west Africa.

Where you located are and what do you do for a living?

I currently live in Toronto, Canada and I am an Hr Specialist.

How would you describe your African style?

I am not sure if i have an African style per say but my personal style is versatile, I wear anything that makes me comfortable.

Why did you decide to become an African Fashion Blogger?

When I Started blogging around the end of 2008 there was just a couple of blogs that touched a bit about African fashion. There was and still is a lack of sites where you can just go and find designers from all over Africa. I thought that starting a blog where one is able to come and find info about their favourite African fashion labels without having to juggle back and forth to Google was a good idea.

What other African fashion blogs would you recommend?

Well I will start by recommending Shadders of Course ( laugh), Shopliquorice, OneNigerianboy, Mimi Magazine, The Fancy Hub, Haute Africa, style House Files, Bella Naija and so many more ……..

African Fashion tip for the season?

Simple one just wear your African print skirt with a bold colored tank top  or mix to different type of print from top to bottom ( print on print is really big this summer)

Do you think African fashion Bloggers are Valued/recognised for their role in promoting African fashion?

To be honest with you I don’t think at this point in time we get all the credits we deserve but we are new at this and things will be ok as time goes on . Those who own blogs know that it does take a lot of time and effort to maintain a blog .Bloggers are the voice of designers. Readers relate to us because we are just like them.

Who or what has been your greatest fashion influence?

My mother

If you owned a clothing  shop, what would it be called?

Not quite sure if i would ever own a shop I might wear all the clothes myself ( lol) but never say never

Who are your favourite African fashion designers and what is it that you love about them?

There are quite a few designers that I love but my Absolute favourite at the is Nigerian fashion label: JBL. I love the fact that they have taken African print to a whole new level. The craftsmanship, Styling of the clothes and more

What item of clothing (if any) do you wish that more of us wore?

Our Homemade fabrics.

Do you think African Fashion is just a trend or is it here to stay?

We always had our fashion and the many designers were inspired by African fashion before but there was just not a voice  behind it. Using Ankara might be a trend for the western world but to me African fashion is not a trend its part of  my culture.

What is your favourite African Fabric?

Ankara print , and Bazin

Finally, what’s the one question you wish people asked you but you’ve never had the opportunity to answer?

I’ve asked a lot of questions but no one ever asked me if I enjoy blogging, so the answer is yes i do  not only because of my content but because Ive developed friendship with so many lovely fellow Bloggers. I hope one day to meet them all.

Hope you have enjoyed our chat with Assa, Check out www.Ciaafrique.com and support African Fashion bloggers!
