Inspired By Africa - Julian Louie’s Spring/Summer 2011 New Tribe

DESIGNER Julian Louie spring/summer 2011 collection, was inpired by Africa,  by the men in Pieter Hugo’s book, The Hyena & Other Men, which documents a group of Nigerians who travel around to West African cities, performing with their not-quite-domesticated pets. The clothing also referenced Pieter’s subjects, who dress in traditional African skirts topped by decent American tank tops. The tops and skirts works well on the noticeably, haute peep-toe platform booties made in collaboration with ALDO that I wrote about not long ago here, along with tassel details and accessories based on African tribal garb. Love the collection, but am loving the shoes more.
