OZWALD BOATENG & OTHER DESIGNERS OF GHANAIAN DESCENT AT THE #AMFW 2012 LAGOS

**OZWALD BOATENG**

British Ghanaian designer Ozwald Boateng of Saville Row will grace the Arise Magazine Fashion Week (#AMFW) 2012 show in Lagos Nigeria in the next few days. The scheduled show will kick off from the  6-11 of March 2012, the grand event will showcase some of the continents creative talents to the world and we are more than excited to highlight designers of Ghanaian descent who will also be at the AMFW. Ozwald Boateng was awarded at the recent Africa Fashion International fashion show in October 2011 where he picked up his award from Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe as the designer of the year international, we suspect he will be awarded again at this year’s Arise Magazine Fashion Awards show on the last day.

**OHEMA OHENE**

A new addition to the AMFW show, Ohema Ohene’s mission is to bring to the world total Royal splendour! Pushing the boundaries of African inspired fashion and paying homage to the beauty of Africa. A taste of colours, influences, prints and concepts which are prestigious to Africa, a beautiful and often misrepresented continent. Abena Pokuaa brand director of Ohema Ohene‘s mission is to bring to the world total Royal splendour! Pushing the boundaries of African inspired fashion and paying homage to the beauty of Africa. A taste of colours, influences, prints and concepts which are prestigious to Africa, a beautiful and often misrepresented continent. I do look forward to see Abena Pokuaa’s delicious footwear gracing the runway of the AMFW show in Lagos. Ohema Ohene’s long term vision is to produce the majority if not the entirety of its products in Ghana and its neighboring community, helping to build a long term source of trade to its people.

**BESTOW ELAN**

Erzumah Ackerson of Bestow Elan will once again showcase her collections at the AMFW 2012 in Lagos. Bestow Elan draws her inspiration from influences from vintage/classic and Ghanaian heritage - which allows her to create garments that are often described as timeless, feminine and chic. The former LFC student based in London will hopefully do us proud as designer of Ghanaian descent, we fully support and wish her all the best.

**CHRISTIE BROWN**

Christie Brown is certainly not new to the Arise shows or other international shows around the continent. Following Christie Browns new boutique opening in Accra Ghana, it proves that there is continuous progression and development with her brand and in my humble opinion she is one of the few Ghanaian Fashion designers who has her business branding right on point. Her Spring/Summer 2012 Talensi collections was a hit, with popping colours merged African prints we are so not worried as I trust this young lady will deliver to make us all proud. Again from her Facebook page we wonder if her next collections is bordering along the lines of XUTRA ???…….. curiosity will definitely kill me!

**DUABA SERWA**

Nelly Hagan Aboagye of Duaba Serwa began her fashion journey by creating indigenous bead jewellery all hand made, sourcing from Ghana, Sierra Leone and Ivory coast. The designer’s first international show took place at the Africa Fashion International last year October in South Africa, following her successfull win from the British Council Ghana’s competion. Duaba Serwa’s work is so different it has an architectural and Alexandre Vauthier feel to it, within this short space of time we have seen her dressed some of Ghana’s well known celebrities with singer EFYA been her muse.

**ANGELO VAN MOL**

Angelo is based in Antwerp, Belgium and of Ghanaian descent. He studied at Royal Academy Of Fine Arts Antwerp and graduated in 2010. His collections are produced in Belgium.. Angelo Van Mol has a stong passion for menswear. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Antwerp with honors and winning prizes as “The Motivation award by Anne Chapelle the founder of Haider Ackerman and Ann Demeulemeester”, “The Coccodrillo award for most creative shoe design” and “Menswear designer of the year at AMFW 2011″. He decided to start his own label under his own name next to working as a freelance designer.

**JIL BOUTIQUE**

Jil Boutique is located in Accra Osu owned by Adoley Addo, once again she will be showcasing her beautiful work at the AMFW 2012 in Lagos. Her boutique is filled with trendy pieces for the fashion savvy, with a chic and comfortable ambiance. I honestly do not know much about this brand we all have to just watch the space.

**KASTLE DESIGNS**

Meet Chantelle and Danielle Dwomoh-Piper the twin sisters, who happen to be identical and both love fashion. With one in charge of Jewellery and the other taking care of the clothing range, these twins bring to us Kastle designs and Treasure Chest. Also known as the Dpiper Twins, the brand has seen growth since their launch, again they are not new to AMFW. We eagerly look forward to their collections!

Dpiper Twins

Arise is expecting 77 designers to showcase their work, Shadders team will do their best to keep you all informed, It is likely that we might be featuring the best designers only.
