New York’s premier African brand and boutique BEBENOIR will be hosting the first, MALI FASHION WEEK from December 12 – 18, 2011. This historic inaugural event takes place at the Musee Du Mali in Bamako, the capital city of Mali in West Africa.

The list of international fashion designers already scheduled to showcase their latest creations include: Paris based African designer ELIE KUAM, who will lavish the runway with his elegant and exotic women’s wear collection. New York based Trinidadian born designer/artist DONNA DOVE is set to thrill the audience with her noteworthy wearable art collection which includes her `Tale of the Shirt’ line that has been well received at fashion weeks in St Kitts, Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana. Ghanaian born designer MIMI PLANGE will bring her new collection that feature a refined fabric sensibility to life. Mimi, who grew up in California and is now based in New York, will display her international flare which encompass a mixture of the rich copper tones of the African plains juxtaposed against the luxury of Victorian style.

New York based Jamaican designer HUGH JOHNSON will present his menswear line labeled YARDMANSTYLE, which is infused with a definite Caribbean flavor spiced with New York hip-hop swagger. Hosts BEBENOIR whose New York boutique has been the home for several up and coming international designers since it’s opening in Harlem four years ago, will showcase the original designs from their own contemporary label in a burst of creativity and bold, vivid color. The BEBENOIR label is known for its energetic, fashion forward and cutting-edge style for the young at heart.

Several Mali Artisans will be honored with Special Awards for their contribution to authentic Mali fashions.  Noted African musical performers will be a part of this gala pageantry that will be MALI FASHION WEEK.
