Since June 2010 Open The Gate and Afro Diva Entertainment joined together to deliver a unique afternoon of entertainment in the heart of lively Dalston, East London: Every 3rd Saturday of each month, Open The Gate (unique afrocentric cultural venue combining a Cafe, Kitchen, Gallery & Music Venue) transform into a colourful African Market held over the 2 floors of the venue. Showcasing original Arts & Crafts goods, fashion & style, natural hair and body care products, books music & arts amongst more, the African Market is a place of curiosity attracting an eclectic mix of people including families, young people & adults coming alone or together with their friends, all from different cultural backgrounds. Local & international charities are also showcased during the African Market promoting their actions in Africa and selling fair-traded original goods. Visitors are welcomed in by the sounds of the djembe drum and percussion instruments of the Drumming Jam Circle. All visitors & customers are invited to join the jam with their own instrument as well. Other attractions of the African Market @ Open The Gateare headwrapping workshop and products taster sessions. The market also includes a ‘Kids Corner’ with games, drawing tools and face painting.
A tasteful selection of the finest West-African & Caribbean meals (all homemade) as well as fair-trade hot drinks and natural juices (14 juices including Mango & passion fruit, Pear or Strawberry) are served all day long in the Cafe. With a unique warm & vibrant atmosphere The African Market has become a reference in terms of events and cultural exchange within the african & diaspora community in London, offering a smooth balance between entertainment and culture.
