AFRICAN BEAUTY - TAKING A HAIRY DECISION

On our recent trip around central Africa, we came across this beautiful Congolese lady which my friend decided to give her a makeover on the streets. As my friend began to apply makeup on her, I noticed that the lady was covered in hair both chin and on her chest. I was like what the??? I was surprised that having this amount of visible hair on her chest and chin did not bother her very much. This lady wore a low cut top and roamed the streets of Congo Brazzaville with pride, I was thinking is either she has lost her mind or she is fed up and ready to bare it all to the world. I was so shocked to see a woman with so much hair all in the wrong places and not hiding it doing anything about it. I know most women don’t talk about this, but most women tend to get hair in unwanted places such as on their chins/nipples and back. Some get a few flimsy ones and others unfortunately end up with pretty coarse and dark hairs that require a lot more maintenance, sometimes every day. There are many treatments out there, from hair removal, waxing, laser, plucking and some shaving it away, which apparently should be avoided at all cost.

Is this a Cultural thing in Africa? Do you or know anyone with a hairy issue? This is real talk ladies share your opinions here!!

Excessive hair growth could be caused by various medical conditions like polycystic ovaries or some kind of hormone imbalance?? Either way, I think it’s refreshing to see a woman who doesn’t feel restricted by, or compelled to subscribe to, what other people think a woman should or should not look like.
    More power to this woman!

Yes, to our westernised eyes it is a lot of hair but that’s life, that’s biology. Some women may Suffer from excessive hair due to many reasons such as polycystic overies or sensitivity to the male hormone which we all have- testosterone. Unfortunately it can be permanent and things such as things like laser treatment some times do not get rid of the hair permanently and let’s not forget its expensive too. So instead of being rude about it be symperthetic. As women we all go through a lot especially when it comes to our hormones. This women probably feels more free like this compared to being a slave to the razor.
If anyone feels this is a problem I would advise to go and see you GP and if its not carry on regardless.
    Peace
