Advice For Aspiring Black Models

Modelling is an exciting career, and while many black girls dream of becoming famous black models few know how to go about making their dream a reality.  There are many ways for a black woman to break into the modelling industry.  Some young women meet African fashion designers who give them their first break, while others answer hundreds of modelling calls searching for work.  Regardless of how a black model gets involved in the modelling industry, there are a few pieces of advice all women should follow in order to increase their chances of success.

Women who are new to the modelling industry should spend some time working on their portfolio.  Being able to show photographers examples of past work will help a new black model get paying work.  To build a portfolio some models will need to pay a photographer and sit for a professional shoot.  Many photographers offer packages for aspiring models which include several looks, poses, prints of the photos, and a CD containing the photographs.  Other photographers who are new to the fashion industry will do photo shoots free of charge to help build their own portfolio.

In addition to building a modelling portfolio, aspiring black models should work on becoming more widely recognized.  A young black model should consider asking casting calls for movies and television shows that are looking for extras.  Most extra casting calls do not require any acting knowledge or experience.  Having acting experience, and a on scene photograph, will add to a portfolio and resume.
